In keeping with tradition I am going to keep releasing my “year in reflection” posts on the first month of the New Year. That gives me plenty of time to think about the year that has past and reflect on it.
Since I graduated from University in December 2007 it has been a bit of a ride. Most people know me as the quiet observer that will sit in the room and watch everything happening, 2008 was no different.
This is just a quick post to notify people that now you can also find me using the domain iamderek.com. I got this yesterday after seeing that someone was using that for their personal portfolio website, reading that the best way to get found on the internet is to have a domain that is your name and since derekmcdonald.com is taken. No need to update bookmarks as I will not be giving up m4cc4s.com anytime soon I’ve become quite attached to it.
At the moment iamderek.com just points to the About Me page so there really is nothing new. But hey, If I have the money for the domain and I want it, I’ll get it.

That is a bloody good question. I don’t think I even know the answer to that one. Obviously I have been breathing, I’m still alive.
My last post was on the 19th May so I suppose I’ll have to dig back in the archive to find stuff I have done since then.
My brother turned 15 and my cousin turned 11. I was suppose to take by brother to see Rove McManus on the 30th in Brisbane but he pissed me off and did stupid stuff that I didn’t (or my parents) approve of so he didn’t go, his loss. I took my friend Pete and we had a ball, many lol moments it was a great night out with a great friend. Had a nice dinner at Southbank too at
Last weekend we cut down a few trees, sorry to the enviromental people but I like my nan to have a house to live in and I want 4 walls and a roof on my room. A total of 7 trees were cut down out of those 4 were dead.
At the end of the month I’m off to see The Umbilical Brothers at the Playhouse, QPAC. I turn 22 next month and don’t feel like having a party, might just go out for drinks and a movie or something.

It has come to my attention that I have not done much with my blog since I put it online in 2006. It is now 2008 and I really have not achieved anything in terms of making my site more like my site rather than just another blog.
Maybe it has been becasue it was the end of university and the start of my career in programming. Whatever the reason I have decided that as of NOW I’m going to start to develop a custom CMS (content management system) with an application for Windows that will allow me to control and update my website from just about anywhere with or without internet connection. Big task you say… Well a number of people never thought I would have done it but recent events have made me think that maybe I should. So here it goes…
The project will be called “Voolium” and I will try to get the first stage of it online by the end of June. I’ll be placing the documentation for the project online for people to view but not the source code. Once it is complete I will decide then if I will release the source code to the public, until then it will remain in a closed state.
Well it has been quite a while since I last posted a post here on my blog. I suppose it has mostly been because I have been quite busy over the past 3 months.
I’m one of those many people that love free stuff. But it is rare that you actually find free stuff that is worth keeping. It was one day at uni when myself and a few friends got sick of typing code, actually it is more I was getting sick of telling them what to type and they were sticking around just in case I was going to help them again, that I came across a game called IcyTower. Basically it is a game where you jump up the highest platform you can, the game ends when you fall off or go below the bottom of the screen.
Now I know I didn’t make this game, would be cool if I did, but I play it so that is good enough. Every person who hates to wait should get this game as it is a great addition to that collection of quick games to play while you wait for an email or someone to call you back.
