After work on Tuesday, 22 July 2008 I decided that I was going to see the new Batman movie, not because it is the final complete movie with the late Heath Ledger, but because I like my superhero movies. I went to the Birch Carol and Coyle cinemas at Myer Center, Brisbane City. It was a full cinema, lucky I got my ticket online.

It is important the characters in the movie to support the story and with a movie like this were every fine detail is looked at under a microscope by the devoted fans. The Joker has always been my favourite villain of Batman and will always be for me. The way that Heath portrayed the character exceeded my expectations down to the laugh, which for me was perfect.

Harvey Dent (aka Two Face) did not seem the part for me but then I don’t think Aaron Eckhart does not suit the character. Some people will say he does but I don’t think he does. It was interesting to see, on screen, how Two Face came into the picture.

Michael Caine makes a brilliant Alfred his witty humor is there and really makes the grounding point for the movie. Although he is not in the big action scenes you know that he is there and there to tend to every need of Bruce Wayne/Batman.

The action scenes in this movie are up there with the best of them. One of the reasons I like The Joker is his use of explosives and the random action he takes, up to the point of telling you what he has done and lets you choose what to do. The scene where he blew up the Gotham General Hospital was excellent, both the way it was filmed and how it was done. Press the button and explosions start happening, get outside the building and then wait. No big BOOM! Press the button a few more times and BOOM! bye bye hospital.

The way the movie ends leaves a few places for another installment, although with Batman Begins and The Dark Knight being prequels to the original Batman the production team have to be careful not to run into the other movies. Although I would not complain if they re-made the originals.

So that was Batman: The Dark Knight… Excellent movie, excellent cast I give it a 5 star rating.
